Sombrero
The Sombrero Galaxy, M104, is viewed nearly edge-on about 30 million light-years away. Hubble emphasises its bright stellar bulge and dark dust lane; Webb’s infrared observations reveal different structure within the same disk and ring. Near-infrared light penetrates some dust, while mid-infrared emission makes the dust itself conspicuous. The galaxy also contains a rich system of globular clusters that preserves clues to its assembly history.
