Around Jupiter’s L4 and L5 regions

Jupiter Trojans

Asteroids sharing Jupiter’s orbit, concentrated in broad groups ahead of and behind the planet.

The Trojan populations occupy regions around the Sun–Jupiter L4 and L5 equilibrium points, roughly 60 degrees ahead of and behind Jupiter. Individual asteroids follow librating orbits rather than sitting at a point.

Lucy is studying selected Trojan targets. Its main-belt encounters provide separate scientific observations and instrument checks; those objects are not Trojans.
